A Ride on History

September 4, 2014

One of Pedego Henderson Electric Bikes’ favorite trails for bike rentals and tours is filled with history. The trail is about 3.5 miles long one way and there are five tunnels that are approximately 25 feet in diameter. The trail runs from Lake Mead National Recreation Area entrance to the back of the Hoover Dam Parking Garage.

The history behind the trail is in 1931 Six Companies build a 30 mile railroad that connected Boulder City with facilities needed to build the then called Boulder Dam. The track remained in operation until 1961 with about 70 people and 11 locomotives. Since then the tracts have been removed.

In 1984 the trail was nominated to the national register of historic places. The railroad trail trip can be extended by exiting the gate near the Hoover Dam parking garage. This allows you to cross the dam and continue on into Arizona.
