BETHESDA, MD – June 29, 2021 –Pedego® Electric Bikes is now open in Bethesda, Maryland, and offers a full range of e-bike sales, rentals, services, and accessories. It is owned and operated by David Bondareff, 59, who is looking forward to delighting the community of Bethesda with the joy of Pedego.
Bondareff, a 28-year veteran in the restaurant industry, who worked as a Regional Director of Operations for a large national franchise in the northeast area and managed 55 restaurants, is a first time entrepreneur by opening Pedego Bethesda. During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Bondareff’s prior company went through a large downsizing shift of upper management and abruptly cut his position. Determined to make a career shift, Bondareff began to explore new opportunities when his father, Erwin Bondareff, 90, introduced him to the fun he discovered when he purchased his Pedego electric bike during the pandemic.
David shares, “Dad called to tell me how much fun he was having riding his Pedego and invited me to join him for a ride around town. I rented an e-bike from Pedego Alexandria and we were off and peddling. I was hooked!” With a new found excitement, David contacted Pedego Headquarters to learn more about their other products and dealer business model — the rest is history. Thoroughly impressed by everything Pedego had to offer, David Bondareff opened Pedego Bethesda 6 months later in mid May 2021. Still very involved, Erwin Bondareff now works in the shop as the “Director of Fun” inspiring customers young and old to join in the fun that Pedego has to offer.
Keeping the family ties strong, David’s wife, Brenda, works at the Pedego Bethesda store as well. Brenda, a certified nursing assistant at a local hospital, met David in the hospitality industry years prior to the two of them making a career change. Now seeing all the fun that can be had with the Pedego brand, Brenda plans to make the same shift as her husband and work in the shop full time to help grow the business.
“A story like the one of the Bondareff family is what Pedego is all about. We love when Pedego brings families together, and in this case, turns into a family business. We are thrilled to have David as part of the Pedego family and thank his father, Erwin, for introducing him to all the joy that a Pedego electric bike brings,” says Don DiCostanzo, Pedego CEO.
Pedego Bethesda is located just northwest of Washington D.C. and is surrounded by a plethora of gorgeous trailways and riding paths to explore via electric bike. Some of the most notable riding destinations include the Capital Crescent Trail, Bethesda Trolly Trail, C & O Canal, and Rock Creek Park.
“At Pedego, we’re committed to inspiring connection and adventure within each of our communities,” said Cynthia Newcomb, Director of Business Development at Pedego. “We’re a people-oriented, fun-focused company, which is why Bethesda is the perfect addition to our Pedego family.
