Pedego New Braunfels Electric With Fun Possibilities
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., July 13, 2020 — A new Pedego® Electric Bikes store recently opened in downtown New Braunfels, where co-owners Kristen Pokky and her daughter Eliza Dahmen are thrilled to offer rentals, sales, service and accessories of the country’s No. 1 electric bike brand. Co-Owner Found Renewed Freedom After Discovering E-Cycling
Kristen Pokky, a nurse by trade, has ridden bicycles her whole life, including work commutes, but when a rare muscle disease made it impossible for her to even mount a staircase, she felt defeated. Then she discovered electric cycling.
With her strength back to normal, thanks in large part to pedaling her Pedego Boomerang around New Braunfels, she’s ready to spread the word — and the freedom.
Pokky and her daughter Eliza Dahmen, freshly graduated from college, just opened Pedego New Braunfels at the corner of Landa Street and Paradise Alley about two blocks from Landa Park in the downtown business district. The store mirrors what Pokky calls the “shabby chic” feel of the area, and features the partners’ friendly service.
The old German town hadn’t offered bike rentals when Pokky inquired about it last fall after riding a friend’s electric bike. So she poked around a bit more, coming across Pedego’s website, then connecting with its CEO and business development director, who encouraged her to try a Pedego. She bought the Boomerang and liked it and the company so much, she decided to go whole-hog and open a store. Dahmen has committed her first year out of college to help get it started.
A smooth ride and the combination of pedal-assist technology and throttle changed Pokky’s life. “With my leg weakness, I can’t get going real good after I stop, and the throttle gets you going to start pedaling. It helps a lot with balance,” she said.
Pokky said she’s already gotten feedback from the city that Pedego’s presence could help boost its economic development because more bike riding is an attractive community feature. The city is working on road, utility and park projects to make New Braunfels more bike-friendly, and Pokky hopes increased pedaling, including organized rides, will contribute to public health here.
She and Eliza are also excited that increased cycling in New Braunfels could bring back a more European atmosphere to the historic town while helping reduce pollution and ease traffic and parking pressures. Eliza especially likes the ability to travel up to 60 miles for a cost of just 10 cents.
Pedego is also about pure fun. And from Pedego New Braunfels, bike renters can enjoy a 12-mile loop through Landa Park, the Gruene Historic District, Old Town German village and Mill Town before crossing the historic Faust Bridge over the Guadalupe River. Guided tours are coming.
