Couple happily spreads newfound love of electric cycling

Keith and Nancy Gecking do a lot of camping, and it was on a trip out West last year that they became acquainted with a new way to move around campgrounds: electric bikes. On a stop to visit friends in Jackson Hole, Wyo., they tried out Pedegos and were hooked.

“It was really true joy and excitement,” Keith says. “We really couldn’t stop grinning. It’s very hilly terrain there, and they were very comfortable, looked like real bicycles and were stable. It took me from a downer (on electric bikes) to somebody who just couldn’t get enough of it and really had a lot of fun.”

The couple bought their own Pedegos once back in Ohio, and in the process noticed the “Own a Store” tab on Pedego’s website. It didn’t take them long to make that plunge, either. They wanted something they could do together, and Keith had spent most of his career in vehicle dealerships, first in sales, then in finance, and most recently selling after-market products to dealerships. Opening a Pedego store was a seamless transition.

The best part for the Geckings is helping others get acquainted with electric cycling — and then fall in love with it. “We sell bikes in pairs, one at a time,” Keith says, explaining that once half of a couple takes to Pedegos, the other half soon follows.

“We had a guy in today, he looks at things with great skepticism,” Keith says. “His wife and daughter were convinced they wanted bikes, and within 30 minutes, he was suddenly saying, ‘Maybe we ought to get three.’ He did a complete 180. If people ride them, it’s hard to say they don’t love them.”

Pedego Peninsula, two minutes off the Towpath Trail and in the middle of Cuyahoga Valley National Park, sits in an ideal spot for cycling. The trail stretches 100 miles between Cleveland and Akron through forests and along the Cuyahoga River. Riders also pedal past the 1800s Hale Farm and Village.
